It's that time again, when I'm dreaming of better days, wishing I was to recieve an invitiation in the mail allowing me front row seats... New York Fashion Week held at the gorgeous Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station (Nate Archibald's grandfather?).
In my news feed especially, there has been a lot of publicity on a woman named Rebekah Marine, who will be walking her second NYFW runway. This woman, although, is not just any woman. She is an inspirational speaker, humanitarian, oh, and did I mention she only has one arm? Rebekah was born without her right forearm and now wears a prosthesis.
To me, this woman is one of the most inspiring people to grace the runway and I could not feel more happiness in my heart for this whole concept. She is a great reminder that you should embrace your 'imperfections' although I do not believe a limb difference is an imperfection. The imperfections start to show in other people when they label others, such as Rebekah, 'disabled' or 'flawed'. I believe she is different not because she only has one arm, but because despite what other people may say, or what the 'generic' model should look like, Rebekah shows not only the world, but herself and the rest of the people with a limb difference, that whatever you put your mind to, you can achieve, all whilst wearing uh-mazing fashion. Just because you may have one less limb than the majority of people in the world, does not mean you can't look and feel just as beautiful - or maybe even more.
Personally I adore this girl because she is using my ultimate love, fashion, to convey a message to the world that you should always be yourself and embrace who you really are.
